Modern
Video
By modern
video, we mean games of the 90's. Games such as
multi-player racing games and virtual reality games.
Also included are the bar top trivia and interactive
gaming. Below is a small list of typical games.
Mechanical
By
mechanical we mean mostly skill games such as mechanical
bowling and table soccer games. These also include the
(Crane) Claw game remembered from Shakey's and The Ground
Restaurants in their heyday (and popular in boardwalk
arcades). Interactive golfing, basketball shooting,
football tossing, Skeeball all fall into this category.
-
Skeeball- A very old
carnival game. Players roll wooden balls down a wood
tray over a ramp into rings on a backboard. Each
ring is worth different points with the small center
being valued at 50 points. The goal, of course is to
get a score high enough to win prizes.
-
Football Toss- This
large game uses a long return bin with several holes
in a backboard. By throwing through different holes
it the player is simulating an actual football game.
It's best played with another player
head-to-head.
-
Baseball Throw- This
game utilizes a large return bin to which is
attached a board with various size holes to throw a
baseball through in an attempt to show how good the
player is at throwing.
-
Basketball Throw- A
large but popular game uses a long bin with a small
basketball hoop attached to the far end. The player
gets a time limit to throw as many baskets as
possible.
-
Virtual Golf- This game
uses a real golf ball and driver to simulate golf by
projecting the course onto a large screen. When a
player tees off into a small net in front of him/her
the machine calculates the probable trajectory and
displays the results on the screen.
-
Crane (Claw) Game- This
game uses a joystick to control the lateral movement
of a mechanical crane which the player attempts to
drop and grab stuffed animals and other prizes in a
glass box. Usually one play per credit, the user
moves the joystick within a time limit and presses a
button to drop a claw-like attachment into the bin.
The machine then automatically closes it's claw,
raises it and moves back into a stationary position
over a chute. If any prize was grabbed it gets
dropped in the chute for the player to
retrieve.
-
Bowling- This mechanical
version of the real thing uses a puck instead of a
bowling ball. The pins hang down over relays that by
hitting in a certain combination mimic real bowling.
There are several different game modes and up to 4
players can participate.
